State prosecution seeks to withdraw the case against Dr Kizza Besigye as court prepares to give a ruling, Chimp Corps report.

The FDC strongman was arrested in April and paraded before the Kasangati Grade One Magistrate on charges of unlawful assembly and disobedience of lawful orders.

Besigye reportedly refused to abide by police’s orders to follow an alternative route, thus disrupting traffic on the Kasangati road.

The politician’s lawyers put up a strong defence, exposing police witnesses’ contradictions and falsehoods during cross examination.

Appearing in Kasangati court today, prosecutor Joseph Kyomuhendo submitted that the state was losing interest in the case.

“Today the case was supposed to come for further hearing but I got instructions to withdraw the case. Here is the withdraw form,” said Kyomuhendo.

Besigye’s lawyers are insisting that the case proceeds to a logical conclusion.

The court session is being presided over by Freddy Egesa.

More details will be posted soon….
