The Acting Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Dr. Joseph N. Biribonwa has cautioned the public against associating and dealing with persons masquerading election officials.
The warning comes in response to an article published in local media under the headline ‘EC Boss Speaks out on MP Nullifications’ which was stating reasons for the nullification of election results.
In the article, the writer quoted a one Moses Kanaruchiko who claimed to be an ‘Inspector of Elections’ at the Electoral Commission Headquarters.
Dr. Biribonwa, in a statement released on Monday July 11th said “Moses Kanaruchiko has never been a staff of the Commission,” adding that “the position of ‘Inspector of Elections’ does not exist in the Electoral Commission Structure and Kanaruchiko’s business card is a forgery, which has been designed to take advantage of unsuspecting members of the public.”
He warned voters and candidates not to deal with the said Moses Kanaruchiko in the capacity of an officer of the Commission, as any such dealings would be done at the individual’s own risk.
Dr. Biribonwa noted that the matter had been reported to Jinja Road Police station in Kampala for investigation and advised members of the public who are approached by such persons, to report the matter to the nearest Police Station, the respective District Electoral Commission office and the Electoral Commission Head Office located on Plot 55 Jinja Road, Kampala.
“The public can also use the following telephone numbers to notify the Commission of such cases of impersonation: 0414 337500/0414 337513 or 0312 211050,” the statement further read.
