Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has described political activists campaigning for President Museveni’s 7th term in office as “gangsters” and “criminals”.
Museveni, 78, is serving his 6th term as President of Uganda, having taken power in 1986.
In 2026, Museveni will be 81 years-old.
Interestingly, several high profile ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaders including the Vice President Jessica Alupo, Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja and Cabinet Ministers have been holding political events to persuade Museveni to seek reelection in 2026 under the banner “Tova Ku main (seek reelection).”
In a brief tweet on Monday night, Gen Muhoozi said, “‘Tova ku main’ is the brand for all the gangsters, criminals and disasters Uganda has…”
He added: “It has nothing to do with my family.”
The Senior Presidential Advisor in charge of Special Operation recently expressed his intention to stand for President in 2026.
Those encouraging Museveni to stay on are said to be in opposition to Muhoozi’s presidential bid.
Muhoozi recently said he would be “President of Uganda after my father,” adding, “Those fighting the truth will be very disappointed!!!”.
Museveni rejects offer
During the recent tour of Acholi region, Museveni declined to endorse his 2026 sole candidature.
In his speech, the LC V chairperson Omoro, Douglas Peter Okello noted that he was representing voters in Omoro district who had, in their wisdom, taken a decision and endorsed Museveni as the sole candidate for the 2026 general elections.
Okello, who was clad in a yellow NRM T-shirt said that all voters in the 18 administrative units in the district had reached the Museveni sole candidate decision.
However, Museveni declined the offer.
“Now regarding the elections of 2026, I thank you very much for proposing to support your old man, but let’s handle that at the right time. Let’s cook and then serve the food. We are still cooking. Don’t bring plates when we are still cooking. So I thank you very much but let’s concentrate on chasing poverty,” he added.
This is not the first time Muhoozi is blasting NRM leaders hellbent on retaining Museveni as President.
The former Special Forces commander recently said the old generation which has ruled Uganda since 1986 should prepare to step aside for the youthful generation to take charge of the country’s affairs.
“In 2026, it will be 40 years of the old people in charge. That will change,” said Gen Muhoozi last year.
“Those are instructions from Jesus Christ! Our generation will be in charge of this country,” said the former Land Forces Commander.
Muhoozi is still a serving army officer. He can only contest for President after being retired from the army.
